Wow.
My last post about city siege frustration seems to have hit a nerve somewhere, as reroller#8217;s traffic spiked pretty heavily yesterday. We had almost 4-5x our normal number of visitors checking out the blog, which was awesome to behold. To all of our new readers, thanks for stopping by, and please be sure to subscribe to our RSS feed if you#8217;ve enjoyed [...]

It has been a while since I have run a giveaway, so it’s time to fix that. I have 10 Taun Fawn pet codes burning a hole in my pocket. This pet is usually only available from attending events. So, what do you need to do to get your han…

Well it seems that a number of blogs have hit upon roughly the same city capture issues over the weekend. You see I am not losing my mind. Now Reroller put something together which was much more coherently constructed than my previous days rant, so pop over and have a good read. Oh yes, if you also have [...]

It seems FRAPSing WAR has taken a performance hit on my machine since release. Back then I could easily play at 80-90FPS and record at a steady 30+FPS. I’m still getting 80+FPS when I’m not recording, which is pretty good, but lately I’ve been recording around the 11-15FPS range. That is simply unplayable.
Any configuration tips [...]

Over the past few weeks I have been playing Cryptic’s new game, Neverwinter. It’s a new game, which isn’t anime, so how can I resist trying it out? I rolled a Dwarf Guardian type character, I know you didn’t see that one coming. So wh…

A while back, I made a loremaster in Lord of the Rings Online. I loved a lot about the game. It had fun questing, beautiful scenery, and an open community. I wound up losing touch with it though. I’d approached it with my WoW goggles on and I think that it ultimately lead to our [...]

Well today marks the first day of the Live Event: The Night of Murder!
And in the same tradition as when I showcased the Dwarf army during Keg End, I’m now writing about the malicious and corrupted Dark Elves. Structured in the same way as before, I’ll talk about some history, their religion, and some of [...]

img class=”resize” style=”float: right;” src=”http://gbgm-umc.org/gifs/worldhistory/sack.jpg” alt=”" width=”211″ height=”329″ /I have to face the facts: based on my slow-as-snails leveling and my general casual playtime, there’s not a great chance I’m going to get to participate in a city siege this year. Not to mention how fortress sieges now bring my computer down to its knees — it’s gotten WORSE over the last couple patches, if you can believe it — so I have an inkling of how bad my computer would react to such an event.br /br /By a few current reports — via a href=”http://blog.reroller.com/2009/02/08/city-sieges-a-frustrating-letdown/” class=”content” Reroller /aand Werit (a href=”http://werit.blogspot.com/2009/02/battle-for-altdorf-part-1.html” class=”content” part one/a and a href=”http://werit.blogspot.com/2009/02/battle-for-altdorf-part-2.html” class=”content” part two/a) — I might not be missing much. Some of it seems to be working fine, but most of the current state of city sieges is lackluster or disappointing, particularly for those who might rush into a capital city expecting epic battles and desperate fights in back alleys.br /br /Mythic didn’t put all its eggs into one basket, but city sieges might be considered the biggest egg — and a slightly cracked one, to continue the metaphor. This is something they absolutely have to get right. They have to. If players ultimately cannot topple an enemy’s city and do something to change the game on a bigger scale — and have fun doing so — then that’s it. Might as well pack our bags and head on out, because at that point WAR becomes a slightly more PvP-oriented version of WoW with nothing huge to distinguish itself. Maybe you disagree with that statement, but the sheer amount of PR that Mythic did concerning city sieges prior to launch put themselves in that position.br /br /We’re almost five months post-launch, and most likely every server’s capital cities are sitting at five stars because not one of them’s been toppled (at least, not without exploits). Servers and factions have their RvR experience stalled somewhere between fortress capture and functional city sieging. Again, I have no first-hand experience with any of this, other than dithering around in T4 RvR lakes and watching the abacus of zone flipping slowly change hands.br /br /It’s here where I start to wonder about what most people assume capital city sieges might be like when they first start WAR and before they do any serious research on the fact. A lot of criticism has been levied at the overuse of PQs and the lack of solid RvR once an opposing force is inside the city. Would first time players assume they could run through the streets, lighting houses ablaze? Perhaps looting indescriminantly? What would make their eyes light up with delight upon witnessing?br /br /Capital City sieges are, obviously, a nightmare to design and implement, and I do not envy or belittle the effort on the development team’s behalf in working on this. I do sincerely hope we get word of a capital city falling for the right reasons soon — I maintain that will be a one-time-only PR coup that might be worth all this fuss.br /br /(This article belongs to a href=”/blogs/WAAAGH” class=”content” WAAAGH!/a and may not be used without permission. The good folks from Mythic are at New York Comic Con and hamming it up in style. Ten Ton Hammer has some footage of the convention including gameplay vids of the new classes. Lots of new information coming out, such as the Orc Choppa having an ability called ‘Get to da Choppa’. The name alone [...]
